A Physical Therapist can assess movement, muscle tone, spine and joint function, strength, coordination, proprioception, as well as other pertinent physical and neurological symptoms that are a result of injury, degenerative conditions, surgeries, disability and/or aging.
A thorough assessment will be completed using best practice methods in developing an individualized treatment plan to restore and maximize function, reduce pain, injury and disability based on your pets condition, lifestyle, and environment.
Manual therapy techniques such as mobilizations, massage and stretching with a combination of an individualized exercise program can help treat and maximize healing of neuromuscular conditions or injuries at any stage.

Becoming certified in canine rehabilitation isn’t something just anyone can do.
This pathway is open only to licensed physiotherapists (or veterinarians with special approval). It builds directly on a physiotherapy degree — meaning your pup is cared for by someone who already has years of university-level training in movement, injury, and recovery science.
To achieve my Diploma in Canine Rehabilitation through the Canadian Physiotherapy Association’s Animal Rehab Division, I completed a rigorous, multi-step process:
Step 1: Independent Study
Canine anatomy, orthopedics, neurology, gait analysis, medications, and even the legal side of animal care.
Step 2: In-Person Foundations
Intensive training in canine behavior, safe handling, functional anatomy, and musculoskeletal/neurological assessments.
Step 3: Advanced Training
Deep-dives into joint-by-joint evaluation, spinal and neurological conditions, advanced manual therapy, sport injuries, post-surgical rehab, and tailored exercise planning.
Step 4: Examination & Case Study
A national-level written exam and a full case study following a dog’s rehabilitation from referral to recovery.
All told, this represents hundreds of hours of advanced training, exams, and practical application — far beyond a short course or weekend seminar.
Why Does This Matter?
Because this education ensures your dog gets the same evidence-based, professional quality of care you would expect for yourself.
It also means I am currently the only physiotherapist trained in animal rehabilitation in Northern Alberta.
That makes Progressive Canine Rehab is uniquely positioned to provide your four-legged family members with advanced, professional rehabilitation services that simply aren’t available anywhere else in our region.
When you choose Progressive Canine Rehab, you’re choosing a licensed physiotherapist with advanced, nationally recognized training in canine rehabilitation — not just someone who “likes working with dogs.”
Because your pup deserves the very best.
